Volunteer Homework Tutor
Craig Family Centre provides free homework and study support for local students from Grade 1 to Year 8 via our Bright Brains Homework Club. Our primary focus is to provide academic support to local children from refugee and migrant backgrounds in a fun and safe learning environment.
We currently require more Volunteer Homework Tutors to help us provide this much needed service. We are looking for friendly individuals aged 15+ with excellent communication skills and a desire to help young people build their confidence to learn and problem-solve.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. The position may be particularly relevant to students who study teaching, education support or a related discipline or have recent subject knowledge.
Study topics often include:
Tutors are required each Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm; this includes session planning and debriefing.
Training and ongoing support is provided. This is a rewarding role, working amongst a friendly and community-minded team.

- Spelling and grammar
- Comprehension
- Early essay writing (e.g. descriptive, narrative and persuasive text)
- Mathematics (e.g. fractions and decimals, place value, ratios, multiplication and division)

Homework Tutors require the following:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- An interest in working with and empowering children
- Current study or a background in teaching, education support or a related discipline (or have subject knowledge)
- Computer efficiency
- A calm, friendly & non-judgmental approach
- A current Working with Children Check if age 18+
