Creative Play with SQUIGGLE KIDS (2-5 years)
Join the 'Squiggle Kids' in these fun, play-based drawing and craft sessions, for families with children aged 2-5 years.
Sessions are 'hands on' and feature playful and open-ended drawing and craft activities using novel materials. We share songs, stories, as well as tips, ideas and materials to continue the fun and learning at home!
Drawing is art and so much more!
Drawing helps children to develop fine motor skills, visual and memory skills, all of which are part of handwriting. Drawing is itself a communication tool. It also supports the development of speech and early writing. Drawing is a form of play that can be creative, imaginative and fun. Drawing can provide opportunities to teach children about the world (eg colours, shapes).
We know that drawing with kids takes some people out of their comfort zone and some kids positively resist it. Our creative playgroups help parents, carers and educators engage and extend children's drawing. Squiggle Kids facilitator and Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Debbie Isaac, explains some of the benefits of play-based drawing:
Creative Play with Squiggle Kids' provides a wonderful opportunity to gently introduce your child to social and educational activities with peers. It's a terrific opportunity to help develop children's confidence, language development and fine motor skills.
Sessions are designed for child and parent/carer to work together. Activities suit children with a range of drawing abilities and interests. All materials are provided. Enjoy indoor and outdoor 'free play' after each session.
Led by paediatric Occupational Therapist Debbie Isaac and children’s author Lauren Gardiner. To learn more about Debbie and Lauren, please click here.

The Squiggle Kids Team
Our Squiggle Kids team is Debbie Isaac, Lauren Gardiner, Cass Freney-Mills and Jenni Bird!
We want to inspire families and educators to draw with children and to have the tools to engage and extend children in drawing activities.
Debbie has used drawing at home and in her paediatric occupational therapy practice as a way to engage children in a shared and joyful activity that develops fine motor and visual skills.
Lauren is a children's author. Her interest in drawing stems from a desire to set her children up for a positive start to school.
Cass has two teenage daughters. One daughter, who is dyslexic, found comfort in drawing and creating from a young age. Creating is Cass' happy place too!
Jenni has worked for many years in early intervention and pre-school learning and holds a number of teaching and specialist qualifications. Drawing has always been a key focus in Jenni's work - helping children to express themselves and providing a fun and joyful way for children to extend their creativity, language skills and fine-motor skills.
