Food Forest Ashburton, Winton Road Ashburton
Community Food Garden
The Ashburton Food Forest is a community food garden located in Winton Road. It is always open, there is no fence! You can be part of this special garden too, whether you visit once a year, once a week or just wander through.
The objective of the Food Forrest is to increase community participation in environmental sustainability activities. We meet regularly to celebrate nature, explore foods and tend to the gardens! Everyone is welcome to join in and learn more about our sustainability principles.
The garden consists of several 'forest layers' and is home to fruit trees, shrubs, edible vines, edible and medicinal herbs and ground covers. Plants are selected to perform multiple ecological roles – promoting growth of other plants, inhibiting weeds, shelter (for people, birds and little creatures), mulch, pest control, bird food, cross-pollination, attracting beneficial insects and of course providing food.
The Food Forest is managed by the Craig Family Centre and run by volunteers, with the generous support of the City of Boroondara. Find us near Gardiners Creek bike trail in Winton Road.
Everyone is welcome!
Where: 38 Winton Rd, Ashburton (near the Gardiners Creek bike trail, opposite Pitt Street)
When: Weekly group gardening sessions 10am to 12pm on Thursdays and the fourth Saturday of the month
Cost: FREE!

We need more Gardening Volunteers - Join us!
Do you enjoy gardening and have an interest in growing food organically? Come and join our Food Forest!
Regular gardening ‘Working Bees’ are informal but informative! Gardening sessions may include harvesting, planning and tending to the plants - planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, and harvesting again.
We enjoy conversations about sustainable gardening methods and plants – growing them and cooking them. Come prepared with gardening gloves, a hat, drink and your tools of choice.
We meet as a group most Thursdays, from 10am to 12pm. And also on the fourth Saturday of each month, from 10am to 12pm (except December).
Please note that all volunteers are required to provide a Working With Children Check.
