Boroondara Youth Foundation
Based at the Craig Family Centre, the Boroondara Youth Foundation (BYF) is a local foundation dedicated to growing the capability of young people in our local community. Our vision is to empower Boroondara youth to create and lead their own projects that they believe will positively impact their communities.
We do this by providing grants of up to $1,500 to individuals and groups aged 12 to 25 from local schools, tertiary institutions, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises with a ‘community-focused’ idea.
Project ideas are wide ranging and may include, but are not limited to:

Benefits of participation
BYF aims to support youth-led change within our community. It offers young people a great opportunity to put their project ideas into action! This often means that through their project involvement, participants can develop ‘real life’ employability skills and a sense of entrepreneurship, as they build their confidence and take pride in their achievements. All whilst further developing their local networks and strengthening their local community.
Free workshops
Young people are often excited about having the opportunity to create and lead their own community-focused project. Through our workshops, we aim to help young people identify areas of need within their local community. We also help them to identify their own areas of interest and utilise their existing skillset.
What are you passionate about? What do you love to do in your spare time? How can you help other young people in your community? Workshops usually take approximately 45 minutes and can be facilitated with either individuals or small groups. We help young people ‘brainstorm’ and ‘scope’ their project ideas. Our Program Facilitator visits schools, tertiary institutions and community groups throughout greater Boroondara. We also arrange meetings in our Ashburton office. Once we have shortlisted ideas of interest, we demystify the Grant Application Process and mentor applicants through the process. This is a great opportunity for young people to develop their leadership skills and positively impact on the youth in their community. |
