Our LEGO Club Mentors are trained volunteers who hold valid Working With Children Checks and have completed all required Child Safe training.
Many of our volunteers are local teenagers passionate about leadership, design, and community involvement, and they take pride in guiding younger children through weekly challenges. We do also work with adult volunteers who assist in the management and leadership of the program.
Our LEGO Club would not be possible without our dedicated Volunteer Mentors.
We deeply value the enthusiasm, patience, and care they bring to every session. Their commitment helps children grow in confidence, imagination, and social connection — and creates the warm, welcoming atmosphere that families love about the program.

About LEGO Club
The Craig Family Centre is proud to offer a creative, skills-building LEGO Club that supports local children, completely free for members.
Our LEGO Club provides a safe, imaginative, and community-centred space for children aged 6–12 to explore design, problem-solving, and teamwork through weekly hands-on LEGO challenges. Children are paired with teenage volunteer mentors, creating a relaxed intergenerational environment where young people learn from and connect with each other.
Each week, participants engage in guided activities that build key developmental skills including creativity, fine-motor coordination, communication, and early STEM thinking. Sessions begin with a welcoming group circle, followed by buddy-supported building time, and conclude with a fun show-and-tell where children share their creations and celebrate each other’s ideas.
We have seen children grow in confidence, social connection, and self-expression through the program. Our aim is to nurture curiosity, help children discover their creative strengths, and support a genuine love of making and learning.
While LEGO Club is open to all children, we expect children to be able to follow instructions, learn independently and exhibit no difficult behaviours. This is because the program is volunteer led, and relies on the Buddy system between child-and-teen.
Sessions run during school terms at the Craig Family Centre for members living in Ashburton and neighbouring suburbs.
